develoopest commented on Ask HN: What tech job would let me get away with the least real work possible?    · Posted by u/makemethrowaway

I know someone working in Cyber Security, basically his job is to set a bunch of alerts for the client companies, all already predefined by a software, he basically sits, checks for new alerts from time to time and reports any issues, it does not require more than a 3 min investigation per alert or more work than to block the attacker IP in obvious cases.

I'm thinking of leaving my job and join the same company, it even pays decently.

My company decided to fire all junior developers because "With AI seniors don't need them anymore", honestly I'm on the verge of quitting, deciding to cut devs on a software company while keeping agile coaches and product owners that basically hinder development has to be one of the dumbest decisions I have seen.

Sorry for the rant.

Can you clarify what tools and programming language you use? If find that the issue often is wrong tooling, exotic programming languages or frameworks.

I would consider frontend tasks using Typescript and React quite standard.

I must be the dumbest "prompt engineer" ever, each time I ask an AI to fix or even worse, create something from scratch it rarely returns the right answer and when asked for modification it will struggle even more.

All the incredible performance and success stories always come from these Twitter posts, I do find value in asking simple but tedious task like a small refactor or generate commands, but this "AI takes the wheel level" does not feel real.

Wishing the best to my PM, who struggles to write a ticket title.

Is that really so hard? I cancelled my Prime subscription years ago and haven't missed it. Walmart, Target, Costco, BestBuy, HomeDepot, etc haven't gone anywhere. Smaller specialty retailers usually sell on their own website with shipping too. Plus, one genuine advantage the other retailers have over Amazon is that you can (usually) trust you're getting something of reasonable quality, whereas Amazon feels like an AI generated flea market filled with garbage quality Aliexpress drop shipping schemes.

I thought losing two day shipping would suck, but it really hasn't. Most of the big retailers (in my area anyways) end up delivering online orders in two days or less anyways, and the delivery fee is free if your order is over a certain size (usually around $35)

De-googling or De-appleing is hard, but De-amazoning (at least for me) was trivial and anticlimactic.

> any service that pays Amazon

If we go literal with this, it gets far more complicated counting Amazon web services

Why would they?

Full chain control, I suppose, there are rumours about Vega OS. https://www.androidauthority.com/android-14-based-fire-tvs-3...

If that's the case, it's a bad idea, Amazon is not prepared to maintain their own OS.

My bet is that Amazon is working on a new OS that's not compatible with Android

So Mozilla plans to pay $50,000 to the top apps while his CEO makes 3 million dollars per year, if they need something ethical and holistic they should start with the organisation.
