Stealing most crypto money is about the dumbest thing ever, because all transactions (for most such currencies) are open to the public to scrutinise and de-anonymous at their leisure. And the police is included in 'the public'.

They use bitcoin "mixers" and harder to trace coins like Monero/zcash etc.

I went from early bitcoin adopter to early bitcoin skeptic and despite missing most of the gains I have no regrets. During the early days the crypto space was concentrated to small online communities. People were mostly interested about the technology and the talk of price was limited, in the context "mass adoption". Nowadays it's about the price and the memes. Add to that the money laundering, energy waste and these abductions. Too many smart people work on these pointless projects instead of useful tech that benefits society.

When an Android device stops getting official updates, you can unlock the bootloader and install LineageOS or something to keep getting community updates indefinitely. Apple goes out of their way to keep you from being able to do that on an iOS device.

LinageOS is sadly available only on the most popular devices.

Or you can buy an old crt one for £10 and see if you have use for a scope before you commit. They do take up more room though!
danaos · 2 years ago
No way I could find anything at £10. Do you have any examples to share?

Interesting as I'm considering buying a scope. Does this still give the most bang for your buck in 2023? Many online commenters mention the Siglent SDS1104X-E as a more modern alternative.

There are lots of financial incentives for people to review bomb the app in both directions. Is there any evidence that it wasn't third parties manipulating the reviews both times in both directions?

I'm imagining a second thread on a different forum, nearly identical to the thread you linked and just as ideological, with a title like "After Circle was unfairly review-bombed with 1 Star reviews by haters, our community has added 55+ Five Star reviews in 3 days."

danaos · 3 years ago
You have a point. If I remember correctly this event is related to the SegWit drama. Circle was not among the biggest supporters of the upgrade.

I have always kept away from circle after they were caught manipulating reviews.

Last time I tried Octave it was several times slower than Matlab. Why use Octave instead of R, Python, or Julia? There is nothing Octave/Matlab can do that they can't. And anybody needing Matlab surely can afford to pay the licence fee?
danaos · 3 years ago
On top of that Octave is not 100% MATLAB compatible, especially if are into more complex projects with toolboxes. I wasted tons of time try to do a college assignment in Octave before turning to MATLAB.
