This claim, without a source, runs the risk of being misinformation, which is a massive problem in 2025.

Can you provide a reliable source to verify it?

I built a weather dashboard using an M5Paper from M5Stack. The M5Paper has an E-ink touch display, is the size of a small smart phone, and only needs to be charged every week or so.

I feel sheepish mentioning this project because there are so, so many weather displays like this. But this is mine, and not only was it fun to put together, but I use it every day.

I have a similar weather display made from the m5paper, but it doesn't look so nice (no graphics). It only updates once an hour though, and lasts over a month on a charge.

In my experience Left-Write is the clear place to start. It's general purpose and fast for reads. Only if that is unsuitable (eg memory usage) does one design a custom data structure. There's a Rust lib implementation with links to more resources:

I agree, it is a great pattern if you can spare the memory.

From the website (https://s3fifo.com/), it claims that it needs no locking (backing scalability claims). This seems like an important part of their work too, unless I've missed some obvious trick that everyone uses. Naively, I would think that you can't update a hash table (to find the cache items efficiently?) and the queues at the same time without a lock. They surely aren't doing a linear search through the queue looking for a match

I have an Airthings Wave Plus [1] which measures CO₂, Radon, VOCs, and some others but until recently I could only get the data out via the cloud integration.

Home Assistant recently added a BLE integration [2] with the device and it works great, way better than the Airthings app actually. So now I'm automatically logging and tracking all the data on a regular basis instead of hoping the app is still running in the background on my phone and updating the cloud.

I am not sure about initial setup since I had to go with the cloud integration to get it working in the first place a year or so ago, but maybe now you could skip that and just start reading the data off the BLE? It's possible but I cannot say for sure.

Thanks for mentioning this. I had looked at these before, but was holing off due to the cloud-polling home assistant integration.

I don't believe this.

I actually had a similar problem trying to park in a parking garage. I talked to some people working there (they were moving 'event day price' signs around). I asked if there was a kiosk or any other way to pay (other than by phone). They said there was not and said I just had to leave and find street parking.

This happened when I was trying to park near a place to get my phone fixed!

I've been using tailscale for a couple years. wrt ios every couple of weeks all traffic on my phone stops and I need to open the tailscale app and toggle the active switch for traffic to start flowing again. I don't have that problem with my other devices.
colonelxc · 3 years ago
I've actually had that happen on Android, seemed to somehow kill even all non-tailscale traffic too

And yet people didn’t take advantage of it and instead quit and farted around with the money. Not everyone of course, for many people it was critical but also for many it was a reason to quit and fart around and not follow their hearts to art or hobbies or something else productive as some UBI proponents predicted very hopefully.

There were record high # of businesses being created during the pandemic. There's anecdotes that it is because they had the opportunity to do so now with some extra cash + time off.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/19/business/startup-business...https://www.npr.org/2022/01/12/1072057249/new-business-appli...

I had also seen some articles (citation needed!) that part of the employee crunch low-wage businesses are feeling is due to employees in those jobs taking their covid-money+time and training/interviewing/applying for office jobs.

I don't think we have a measure on how many people got to pursue their hobbies (rather than 'farting around'), though I'm not sure it matters. UBI proponents don't think that all people will do something 'valuable' though, just that it will be a net positive.

I wish there was a list. There's actually several companies that have announced layoffs over the past couple months.
