Why?
ciceryadam · a month ago
Because many people commute to Luxembourg from Germany/Belgium/France. AFAIK the cross-border commute complicates things.

You can't have a car parking space and a children's park in the same place: you must make a choice.

They also provide utility. If you remove parking spaces near a children's park less children can/will visit. You need a balance.

ciceryadam · a year ago
Tell me you are an American, without telling me you are an American.

You can reach a children's park on foot or by taking public transportation, so ideally there's no need for a parking lot right next to it.

Indian dialect is derived from the colonial English. So, lot of words and usage can be found in British English.
ciceryadam · a year ago
I don't think that most of Brits are "doing the needful". Indian English has plenty of expressions that are exclusive to India.

I have a pair of custom-made boots I bought a few decades ago for $500 and which have been repaired once. Don't wear them much now because they're so heavy. So, yeah, they're not really for me today but that's what high quality is.
ciceryadam · a year ago
Check out rose anvil on YouTube, the guy cuts boots in halves to check the build quality, and has some good recommendations

I would fully support going back to offices with doors. Unfortunately the tech companies and newer generations brought us open plan offices (because they're more social!) and made secretary an offensive word. Now I live in a world where you don't know how to properly address the lady that books your travel.
ciceryadam · a year ago
In all but my first job there was no such lady. It was my responsibility to book my own travel, mostly through some clone of Concur.

> If you really must binge on the junk food

This is inaccurate - the other day I wanted to get some cookies for a child - label said sugar content was like 25%, that's insane. I have baked cookies myself, you don't need that much sugar to get decent tasting cookies, they are not suppose to be junk food. it's everywhere, not just chocolates, even in bread.

It better be a malevolent conspiracy, because if not, then it's suicidal stupidity of our species.

ciceryadam · a year ago
Sugar is not only addictive and harmful, it's also a preservative. It's cheap to add and provides longer shelf life.

Where are these mythical big, fast, wide roads?

Every road I know, no matter how wide, is slow. And making it wider doesn't help because of induced demand.

I’m guessing it’s actually răchie from pine cones, not needles. Either way, now I’m curious to try it.

also try https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borovi%C4%8Dka

The difference between gin and borovicka is that gin is usually a neutral tasting alcohol that gets the juniper berries macerated in them, but borovicka is vapor infused during the distilling process.

One of my favourites is https://www.zufanek.cz/en/product/borovicka-juniper-spirit/
