century19 commented on The warning signs the AI bubble is about to burst   telegraph.co.uk/business/... · Posted by u/taimurkazmi

A good sign the bubble is not actually bursting: a mainstream news publication predicting it. [1]

It's still 1994. We won't be near the top until the Telegraph publishes an article overly exuberant about AI and saying AGI is here.

If every idiot commenting on Reddit, HN, X, and mainstream news publications is pessimistic and constantly shouting "bubble!," then definitionally, we have not reached irrational exuberance and we're not even remotely near the top.

I'm pretty sure they want it kissing people's asses because it makes users feel good and therefore more likely to use the LLM more. Versus, if it just gave a curt and unfriendly answer, most people (esp. Americans) wouldn't like to use it as much. Just a hypothesis.

Yes and I’ve seen this at work. People saying I asked the LLM and it said I was right. Of course it did. It rarely doesn’t.

Revive? These things are still in active use all over Europe .. backfiet .. and while they’re fun, they can be exhausting if you overfill them with groceries, kids, roadkill, oilyballs, etc.

There’s a tricked out one in my ‘hood (Vienna) that has electric assist. I guess that’d be practical for a daily ride …

century19 · 3 months ago
Bakfiets no? That’s what the Dutch call it and they use them widely. Especially the electric versions you can get nowadays.

There's always vaping! Nicotine goodness without the combustion byproducts.
century19 · 4 months ago
People that I have seen substitute with vaping seem to get more addicted to that.

One of my first jobs was working at a fast food place, and my first night on the job, I was taking the trash out, and the thing tipped over, spilling it all over the parking lot, and I just said "fuck this" and went home and never came back. If I worked at Twitter right now, I'd be thinking about doing something like that again.

I don’t think you are the hero in this story. Pretty terrible behavior.

I have interviewed Turkish people that did not have Cloud experience as their large companies (e.g. banks) were not allowed to use US cloud services. Seems like that was wise now.

Almost every EU company I worked with, migrated from Windows to Ubuntu at some point.

I've worked with many and it was always Windows, with some use of MacBooks in recent years. Never once seen Linux desktops.

Don't worry. There is plenty to be done. These stories come up every few years. Previously it was outsourcing to India, or low-code tooling, etc. AI can make you more productive but there will still be plenty of jobs.

Intel cancelled a 25 billion site in Israel. The future of multi national companies in Israel does not look bright. This feels like a propaganda piece.
