Oh my God, I love it. I would have done Spacey's character, maybe, but the gist is great.

I would take Spacey's character from Baby Driver.

I don't know if this helps but I've been adding a full stop next to emoji exactly for this. It doesn't fix it for ~new people but it's something for yourself?

This is what I’ve been forced to do for years and I’m sick of it lol

I specifically attempted to get a job at Discord so I could submit a PR to make giant emojis be a toggle setting rather than automatic. I know the feeling.

(If anyone works at Discord, please me and the rest of my server are begging you)

@dang looks like HN ate the leading “How” in the title.
buggy6257 commented on Ask HN: What is a physiically disabled person to do in this job market?    · Posted by u/amathew
buggy6257 · 2 months ago
I do not have the same physical situation as you but was out of work for 7 months with similar experience level and got to the “offer or no” with 10 companies Before I finally got a job thanks to a referral and good interview.

What I’m saying here is that (a) your time in the market isn’t absurd for this current economy, and (b) it’s also not provably due to your disability so don’t go blaming that without proof or you’ll talk yourself into giving up. Shits HARD right now man just keep trying and focus hard on networking and referrals. It seems the only way to get a job right now

I like your joke and agree wholeheartedly with your point, but it is awfully difficult to upvote a comment that contains “/s”. Usually that’s an auto-downvote.

Just let your comment stand. You don’t need to call attention to the fact that it’s a joke.

buggy6257 · 2 months ago
you would be both surprised and deeply sad by how many downvotes and comments they would get if they removed the /s

> Every organization and industry has watering holes where the whiners hang out. The cynical. The jaded.

I wish. I've worked for startups where I would've killed to have such a space, where people actually felt free to criticize the way things were going.

Toxic positivity is a thing too.

buggy6257 · 2 months ago
For me in every startup I’ve worked this ended up just being a self selecting group slack DM where we would mock things. We didn’t hate the places but there’s always stuff to have fun with like that. We would just recognize each other and keep adding people.

Honestly if I was interviewing, even if you told me the future and this was the outcome of hiring the guy, I still wouldn't hire him.

It's clear he's brilliant, and experienced, and seems like he's just refusing to "play the game". Speaking truth to power works if you know when to also NOT do it, or how to do it in a way that gets people to listen.

It doesn't really matter how brilliant a guy is; if he's not capable of "playing the game", then he's going to be (and WAS) out on his ass within a short timespan. That's a sink on my team's resources having to hire AGAIN and train AGAIN so short after his hiring. I don't want brilliant jerks, I'd rather have someone decent who can stick around by not getting himself fired for saying the wrong thing to the wrong person.
