I find that absurd. How can giving the police information that can exonerate you always be a bad idea? It seems like people have entered this weird behavior where they follow guidance blindly.

EDIT: And after watching some of the video the presenter seems to be making the case that you should never interact with the police. And maybe even moreso -- maybe never communicate at all w/o your lawyer since there are laws you may be breaking at any point in time that you may not realize.

If prosecution doesn't care about the truth, and the police happily will comopletely fabricate out of thin air, and you regularly break laws you aren't even aware of -- it seems like talking to police is a relatively small problem.

parent comment roughly paraphrased the advice... the core advice is to never speak to police WITHOUT YOUR LAWYER present.

Certainly providing the menu that might exonerate you is probably fine -- but that's what a lawyer is for.

Anyone else having issues ordering? Apple Pay fails, and manual checkout says it can't be shipped to my address. It's a normal US residential address.

Edit: According to their forums, "There are no US region (R02) flippers in stock at the moment."

I disagree that they go down the path they do because they think they’re going to be FAANG-sized, but rather it’s a case of cargo-culting, “we’ll use these tools/architectures because the best companies use them, therefore they must be the best tools/architectures.”
brianlweiner · 4 years ago
I don't even know if it's cargo culting as much as engineers using their day jobs as opportunities to learn marketable skills for job hopping.

Nearly ever new technology introduced at places I've worked was because someone was keen to get it onto their resume.

Plant production is also heavily subsidized in the US [1], so I don't see how this is relevant.

[1] Soybean Subsidies in the United States totaled $44.9 billion from 1995-2020 - https://farm.ewg.org/progdetail.php?fips=00000&progcode=soyb...

Quirky diners are one of the biggest things I miss from seacoast NH.

What is there to do for tech work in Baltimore? All jobs I've seen are in the MIC, which I dislike.

There's still lots of non Military / Fed stuff! And it's getting better.

A few off the top of my head. I'm currently working (remotely) for a BigCo that acquired my startup employer last year.

Technical.ly can be a good resource for local postings. I've worked as a SWE in Baltimore for 10 years and have never had employment issues. I don't quite make SV money, but I make solid 6 figures and can afford a very nice home on just my salary and send my kids to private school, etc.

I feel like I understand a lot of the pandemic and post-pandemic demand spikes, but used cars elude me. Is it just people wanting new cars less, or less new cars being available?
brianlweiner · 5 years ago
Two factors that I'm aware of:

-- Early in the pandemic, travel was way down. Rental car companies unloaded a lot of their fleet that were sitting idle. Now that demand is back up, they are back on the market for vehicles.

-- Semiconductor shortages: automobile manufacturers cut their orders in early 2020 anticipating a decline in demand. That decline never happened, so they're now now able to obtain sufficient chips for new vehicle manufacturing. Thus a decline in new car availability that might push some car-buyers onto the secondary market.

His tweets show a trend of narcissistic behavior, the pedophile incident is merely the most egregious.

EDIT: Thanks, @brianlweiner

EDIT2: For the downvoters, whom I can only assume don't agree that he shows narcissistic asshole behavior:

We will coup whoever we want! Deal with it.

I’m not at risk [of contracting Covid-19], neither are my kids

Everybody dies

Tesla stock price is too high imo

Pronouns suck

If I am a narcissist (which might be true), at least I am a useful one

Am considering taking Tesla private at $420. Funding secured.

House prices will never fall significantly. As soon as a house enters the market at anything below the going rate it's bought by a landlord or a rental company. This will keep house prices high forever.

If restaurants haven't signed up, then how are they getting fees from delivery services?
brianlweiner · 5 years ago
In at least some cases ... the prices you see on grubhub may be higher than the actual prices the restaurant is charging. E.g $17.99 vs $14.99
