8 years ago was the first time that person encountered a problem with btrfs. But that wasn’t the last apparently:

Running Trixie/Gnome on a machine with 4GB (3.6GB usable) w/o any trouble.

Gnome runs better than ever, the problem is in my experience usually the web browser when it comes to RAM usage. Install ZRAM and the machine should be perfectly usable, if your usage patterns are similar to mine.

(Only thing which annoys me is that I cannot find an excuse to buy a better computer, because everything simply works on the machine...)

Thanks for the feedback!

Does someone know if there's an increase in memory usage for Gnome or if it's about the same? I am wondering if I can update an old computer with only 4GB of memory.

Some people support this law, not because they think those pesticides are harmless, but because other EU country can still use these pesticides which give them an economic advantage. I don't understand while they are not instead asking for a European law to ban them. So every EU country would play with the same rules.

The Nintendo Switch PD charges from every adapter and cable I have tried. However the Switch's power brick itself won't PD charge any other device.
bondant · 2 months ago
I frequently use the Switch's power brick to charge my Thinkpad, as it's smaller and so easier to transport than the Thinkpad's original power brick.

Australia was the first country to widely support chip/pin and then tap/pay.

Even here cash is coming back into vogue as costs are pushing small businesses to evade taxes.

I was in Tokyo last week and it was similar businesses i.e. mostly smaller and in lower margin industries.

Do you have any source on that? I find it rather surprising.

Each new Lua version has breaking changes that are of dubious value to keep on the upgrade treadmill. Something like a Python2->3.

LuaJIT is famously on 5.1 with no signs of moving.

bondant · 4 months ago
Not moving straight to a more recent version, but still cherry-picking some parts of them. You can see some functionalities from Lua 5.2 and 5.3 are working in Luajit: https://luajit.org/extensions.html
bondant commented on Odin: A programming language made for me   zylinski.se/posts/a-progr... · Posted by u/gingerBill

I'm the creator of the Odin programming language and I originally tried to approach it by fixing C. And my conclusion was that C could not be fixed.

I made my own standard library to replace libc. The lack of safety is hard to do when you don't have a decent enough type system. C's lack of a proper array type is a good example of this.

Before making Odin, I tried making my own C compiler with some extensions, specifically adding proper arrays (slices) with bounds checking, and adding `defer`. This did help things a lot, but it wasn't enough. C still had fundamentally broken semantics in so many places that just "fixing" the problems of C in C was not enough.

I didn't want to make Odin initially, but it was the conclusion I had after trying to fix something that cannot be fixed.

Do you know if there are some professional games that have been made with Odin and released on steam or on game consoles?

If you globally install the npm module dhost, you can run it from any directory (`dhost`) to start a webserver there.

Python 2 had a similar function (`python -m SimpleHTTPServer`). I know there's a Python 3 equivalent, but I don't have it memorized.

python3 -m http.server
