So… What are the features vital that only available in Chrome?
bnt · a year ago
Not OP but guessing: easier to build/test/debug in Chrome for starters, and if it gains traction try to fix cross-browser bugs. Especially if this is a 1 person show.

One thing this blog post is missing is the words "I'm sorry" or "I feel bad about this." I suspect he doesn't feel bad about it at all and revealing the deception is now just for more clicks and attention.

Was anyone hurt? Does anyone care? The original post was fun, and this is even funnier.

They remove pwas in latest ios beta(only in the EU) they are evil
bnt · 2 years ago
Wait, is this confirmed that it's removed only in the EU? I've seen "reports" on Twitter (never gonna call it X) but nothing official.

Apple needs a Microsoft-2000s-era slapdown to put them in their place. Regardless of your thoughts on the situation, a mega/giga-corp flaunting the spirit of the rules is a bad sign for the future.

First they need to slim down the hardware offering. I can't even recommend an iPad to family members anymore, because there are so many of them with minor differences. Same for the phones. Even the MBP line is now convoluted with MBP14 getting the baseline M3 processor.

Yeah but with which 110V socket, from where? If you don't live at your own house and live at a rental apartment complex then you have no charging point at your parking space either way, be it 800V or 110V, until the building management or the city council decides to invest in EV charging infrastructure where you live and park your car.

What are you gonna do then, implement those Slav-Engineering™ solutions you see in Eastern Europe where EV owners run household AC extension outlets from their balcony window to their car parked in front of the commie-block? I mean, it works, but it's not legal to code everywhere and would get you in trouble in the more rigorous countries.

EVs are currently best suited to those who live in their own homes and can install their own chargers, or have chargers at work. Those without chargers at home are left holding the bags in the switch to EVs, hence why adoption is so slow.

Hey, my Slav neighbour charges his Model 3 that way!

Now, in all seriousness, EVs are for houses, not apartment buildings. If you have a driveway, and want an EV - by all means go for one.

But if you live in an apartment block where it's hard to even find parking after 7pm, then stick to ICE now.

That would be a huge mistake he’s irreplaceable. Like it or not OpenAI is his brainchild and any company without him is just another Claude/Grok/Bard and not the source of these innovations.

People said Sam was irreplaceable and then we wasn’t?

If you want to tax properties, why not taxing both the land and what is build upon it?

And wardrobes, tables, books or computers (every year) but that's another story.

bnt · 2 years ago
So basically own nothing and be happy? What then drives people to create any meaningful value to the economy?

> People can actually invoke shapes and colors in their minds.

Please can some of you chime in. I have never been able to picture things and I don't have a voice in my head. Do you? I assumed my way is the norm, it's weird finding out that it might not be. What does picturing things even look like, is there a floating object in front of you?

On the voice thing I saw a Reddit thread where people were expressing surprise that some people don't have an inner voice when they read or think.

bnt · 2 years ago
I can’t picture objects or colour, but have vivid dreams. Also it’s normal for me to hold conversations with myself in my head. Post-covid I had a few days with no inner “voice” and it was terribly lonely.

>I'm a backend guy, I don't understand how to set up node

I understand that Node is mostly known as a frontend tool and Rails uses it for that, but as far as I remember Node was as least initially developed to bring JavaScript runtime to backends.

Even without a package manager node is just a node.exe under Windows, and I think you just have to download and unpack npm and then put node and npm into your PATH environment variable.

bnt · 2 years ago
I recently set up a new Win11 laptop and all it took was download Node and install it via the installer. You’re up and running in 90 seconds. Yarn was another 30 seconds (npm i yarn). Even Ruby works well with RubyInstaller, and you can normally develop Rails without WSL if you really want to.

This is obviously not a popular opinion, but: I think this is great news. In the world of Meta dominating social media (+ TikTok now de facto in 2nd spot), we need diversity in the field.

Twitter (X) definitely changed in the past year, but I see it as a positive change (maybe it's my bubble) - my tech feed is no longer polluted by people fighting about left vs right, Trump etc, my feed is now tech people sharing tech-related content and I love it.
