Many thoughts:

- That wasn't in my bingo list. I guess it's acquisition time and all these AI companies need to spend the money somewhere.

- Congrats to the team. I was a big fan of their devrel work.

- Now both wandb and neptune AI have been acquired. I guess there is no independent MLOps solution left.

- Are they shutting down the product? Is this an acquihire? Does it mean OpenAI has not offices in Europe?

Yes. And you only have until 4th March to migrate away!

"Yet, EU vehicle safety regulations have supported a 36% reduction in European road deaths since 2010. By contrast, road deaths in the US over the same period increased 30%"

I thought this stark difference might be partially explained by US population increasing more quickly than EU. However it turns out in the 2010-2024 period, US population increased by +10% while EU27 pop increased +2%. So although there is a minor 8% difference, this is far, very far, from explaining the stark difference even if we compared per capita. The EU is certainly doing something right here.

Quite the opposite: Given how few people actually walk in the US these numbers are even crazier...

I contributed to an OSS project recently that ran the linter before the tests and it absolutely trashed my code-build-test cycle. If I felt less strongly about the value of the project I would have bailed.

If I’m trying to get the code to work don’t cockblock me on Make it Work with your Make it Right enforcements.

I’ve heard this argument before but I don’t get it. It’s trivial to setup your code editor to format on save. Why do people not do that but rather complain about files linter checks on CI?

Author here. It's mainly for k8s resources; but if you install operators like external-dns or something like crossplane into your cluster, you can manage infra too.
bbu · 10 months ago
ok, that makes sense. A better Helm would be nice. timoni.sh is getting better and better, but Cue is a big hurdle.

Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of the yaml-hell that crossplane is either.

But as a Terraform replacement systeminit.com is still the strongest looking contender.

Looks promising but it starts with a (justified) rant about terraform and then goes into how to replace Helm.

I am confused. Can yoke be used to create and manage infrastructure or just k8s resources?

I am in my 40 and joined a startup last year. Best decision ever. I still love what I am doing and I can’t imagine doing something else.

Won't need most of humanity wasting time gatekeeping and toiling, to instead focus on study and leisure.

Increased productivity has to more, not less toiling in the last 50 or so years. This is not gonna be different with AGI (if it ever happens). Some people will get very rich while the rest is still gonna work just as much as they are now. The jobs just gonna suck even more.

I love seeing innovation in this sector. I’ve long felt that there must be a better way than terraform and pulumi. Excited to try it out.

Firing sales and marketing and getting rid of the free tier. How are they planning to find new customers?
