Why just teens though? Getting manipulated by algorithms crafted to maximize screentime and ad revenue is bad for anyone.

These platforms rely on ads to survive. Which means it should be easy to regulate them. You can prevent them from selling ads at which point they will be forced to comply. If they don't, someone else will get the ad revenue. Europe is already hostile towards american tech giants anyways.

The possibilities are endless. Pass a law that forces all social media with more than x users to not implement constant scrolling, make their ranking algorithm open source, allow people to use their own algorithms, employ robust moderation etc.

Instead we have a blanket ban that requires id checks but leaves the manipulation machine intact so it can prey on adults. Mental health is not the real issue here. They want to be able to track people and destroy anonimity online. Children are a convenient excuse.

I am checking conservative echo chambers from time to time and find it ridiculous that they always find a positive spin on all the obvious grifting and destruction that is happening around them. we are witnessing the downfall of an empire with our own eyes and can do absolutely NOTHING

>the important forests being torn down far cattle

It's a bit extreme to refer to that "climate" summit "guests" as cattle, but I won't deny it gave me a chuckle.

>the inhumane conditions in which the cattle are raised

Gosh, that's sad. One way to go about it is to vote with your hard-earned and only buy meat from the Ethically Raised in the Swiss Alps Cows that look quite happy on the photos then.

There’s little chance that the statement is true. Chickens kept in a backyard can live on bugs and kitchen scraps and there’s no delivery cost for eggs or eventual meat.
asterix_pano · 3 months ago
That is not how most of the chicken is raised (over 70 billions are slaughtered per year).

Because Crypto has historically found more use as a form of high tech gambling and vehicle for fraud than it has as actual currency
asterix_pano · 8 months ago
Because almost no administration was ready to regulate it until recently. Payment and remittances are such obvious use cases but if every transaction create a tax event, it's also too cumbersome to implement for most merchant.

Yeah. It’s ridiculous how crypto gets so much hate here, yet there are constant, often heart wrenching posts about the failures and even near-malfeasance of payment processing systems. The paradoxical claims that crypto has no use case except fraud and crime, juxtaposed with the lamentation and gnashing of teeth over the misery of traditional payment systems is enough to provoke an existential examination of the senses.

I honestly think it must be mostly sour grapes, since by far, cash and other traditional payment methods facilitate the vast, vast majority of crime and fraud, and cryptocurrency is the only universally accessible, trustless, (nearly) costless, instant, global system for the transfer of value between two parties.

It is by far a better system, even with its flaws. Which is why, yes, many criminals use it, just as they use cash. Because it works.

I am also amazed by the resistance to change here as there is a system clearly more efficient and transparent. It's just a matter of time in my opinion. BTW you can remove the (nearly) in "(nearly) costless", some solutions provide 0 fees and no inflation.

I haven't used ChatGPT in a few weeks now. I still maintain subscriptions to both ChatGPT and Claude, but I'm very close to dropping ChatGPT entirely. The only useful thing it provides over Claude is a decent mobile voice mode and web search.

If you don't want to necessarily have to pick between one or the other, there are services like this one that let you basically access all the major LLMs and only pay per use: https://nano-gpt.com/
