That this factual statement is moderated down to being nearly transparent says more about Hacker News (which I have been a member of since it was Startup News) than it does the topic.

Indeed. I also like the "no one wants this" comments where people like me comment along the lines of: "I'm an example of someone who wants this." And get moderated down to oblivion.

People have been doing so on fiverr way before nfts

Fiver is a nice way to finance some tacos, meanwhile NFTs have enabled artists to make life changing money.

Nobody wants this! Not now. Even the grifters have moved on from NFTs now.

I want it, and so do others that I know.

Big brands don't care. They have massive budgets that they need to spend and are happy to spend them or else they get cut.

I don't understand this mindset. The only way a congestion charge can possibly actually work is if it's high enough to discourage people from making car trips into the city. If it's low enough that people can ignore it, then it's useless for its purpose.
anony23 · 2 years ago
This toll will have 0 impact on congestion and just extract money from folks that are already over taxed. It's a slap in the face to working class NYers.

Based on the fee being below 60th only, you can easily cross the GWB into Bronx without getting anywhere near the toll.

Are the FDR and west side highway exempt from the toll?

I suggest you read Bret Devereaux's "This Isn't Sparta" [0] series. He dismantles the myth the "hard times" cycle you mentioned.

For contemporary examples, just look at North Korea or Russia. Life is undeniably harder for citizens living in these countries, but where is the expected "strength" and "good times" that should result?

The strength is there for those that leave and set their kids up for good times in a better place.

My concerns about a cashless society are the power it hands to a few oligopolistic credit card processors. Look at what happened to Pornhub. Regardless of whether you think Pornhub was in the wrong, it is striking that a business was cut off from global financial system by a small number of credit card companies. This was done without due process and under no countries laws. That should scare us at least a little.

Crypto fixes this to some extent, but would require a chain that could handle a large volume of small transactions.

Lua is also the language of choice for the nmap scripting engine.

While cute, easy to learn and all, I feel like it has kept back the development of nmap scripts. Only a few people are dedicated enough to take the time to learn it.

Then again, I think this has kept the quality of the available scripts high.

What are some of the nmap scripts that you use regularly?
