You guessed correctly.

I’ve been following that thread very closely. Prepping myself to install cruise control but as I have a cem-b in my car, I have to solder to the board.

What changes have you made?

I am actually fascinated by car electronics. I had heavily modified the software on mine, but it was easier than modern stuff, no encryption of the code, and even the checksum code only triggered a DTC with no consequences.

The only module that was encrypted was the main module, but it if you knew the security PIN you could do what you wanted. It was determined by people that if you observed the jitter of the CAN line fast enough, you could leak the pin via a side channel attack.

But modern car electronics are encrypted, and some probably have security processors that might trigger some irreversible states if you tamper with them. Modern cars are basically as locked up as a PS5.

Uh oh! Somebody missed out on some pop culture!

Dumb question for the folks with kids: how are they indoctrinating the kiddos these days? I remember SpaghettiOs ads from Saturday morning and after school cartoons. Do kids even still do those things?

N.b.: all the people in my life with kids are weird. Delightfully weird, but weird nonetheless. I feel totally out of touch with anyone I might describe as a mainstream parent.

My reason to use Ventoy is the possibility to have multiple ISOs on one single USB stick. Before I would have to dd the new ISO to the stick, wiping what was there before. Effectively this resulted in more writes to flash and ultimately multiple broken USB sticks.

FWIW, I think you mean `dd`.

For solo-private projects, I constantly catch myself writing full commit messages even though I never read it again, and `git commit -m "."` would suffice.

git commit -mm works and is a bit quicker

Yeah. At one point the company had over 700k paying members, almost half of which were from companies with over 500 employees. At the peak the company was the largest holder of Manhattan commercial office space.

The part the "documentaries" left out is that there was actually a really good business at the core. Giving companies of any size the ability to hire in any market globally and giving their employees the flexibility to live almost anywhere, while maintaining the amenities that tech workers have come to expect. We just had a chain of completely incompetent leaders who refused to see the company for what it was.

Adam used the company to launch his own montessori school for his children because that was more exciting and "visionary" than building a managed service provider model and leasing laptops to member companies and providing unified helpdesk/IT at every location (which would have absolutely printed money). He bought a literal glass factory (to make cool windows) instead of leveraging our network of small business owners to have almost zero customer acquisition cost for high margin businesses like managed book keeping or HR/payroll.
