Not much about that memo was "factual", whatever that means.

Some scientists did agree, even said he wrote an A worthy paper.

Others disagreed.

Even slatestarcodex argued a little for both sides.

Its clear scientific consensus has not been reached, and people need to discuss this openly with out censors.

I think one thing that struck me from the linked article was the point that the memo wasn't structured to invite discussion. It wasn't "let's have a chat", it was "here's an evidence bomb of how you're all wrong".

I think advancing points is fine, but if you're after productive discussion rather than an adversarial debate, you need to proactively invite discussion. And if an adversarial debate was what he was after, that does strike me as inappropriate work communication.

It was a politically charged topic, he would have been crucified either way.

But by phrasing the memo the way he did, he covered himself legally.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear everything was run by a lawyer first.

From a layman's point of view, I have always wondered why hackers rather create tools to hack normal citizen rather than go for those guys. I understand it is often about the money involved... But maybe they do and we don't hear about it ? Anonymous is a weird group, sometimes you think they are acting for the good of humanity hunting down criminals, sometimes you hear them push a political agenda that is frankly debatable and arbitrary. Going after neo-nazis and promoters of hate is on the other hand an indisputably good cause...

Old neo nazi's were involved in a lot of crime and drug activities which made them alot scarier.

New neo nazi's seem alot more normal looking and young (based on charlotteville), which is probably more worrying for a different reason.

While this group is heinous, I can see this happening to a legit organization one day. This will be interesting to watch what happens when the web becomes closed.

Yea it was always coming given the success of the great firewall.

Soon world governments will get in on this, if they haven't already.

I suspect identity politics from the left is backfiring tremendously combined with a lack of jobs, you have pain and extreme hatred.

Also politics on both the left and right favors global corporations.

Identity politics and failed politics are ripping america apart.

I lean towards yes, but only for me.

I suspect biological diversity also applies to our minds (mental diversity).

Slatestarcodex often talks about psychotropics affecting people differently.

Misfire is an under statement.

Ruining the lives of innocent people because of mob bloodlust is wrong.

Hopefully the doxxers get sued for defamation.

Drones seem like they need to be more regulated maybe by the FAA.
