These studies are all deeply flawed. They find willing participants, give them some drugs, then ask how they feel about it. Of course they say they feel spiritual and connected with the world and all of that, that's what the drugs do. But I know plenty of people who claim that mushrooms or lsd were spiritually awakening and connected them with the world, who wouldn't think twice about stealing from an old woman's purse, robbing people, or worse. I know alcoholics who claim they don't have a problem and think drinking is just good fun, but are also violent assholes when they drink.

I did not read the study so I don't know if you're referencing a specific claim in it, but I do not understand your comment. What does being immoral have to do with TFA?

You shouldn’t have to think about all the implementation details of your deployment target. There shouldn’t be platform engineers or Kubernetes experts. Nobody should be writing YAML, or getting paid to set up Istio. Nobody should have to learn the Kubernetes architecture or know about the kubelet or EBPF. The tools should be simple enough with good defaults that application developers just click a button and have their code run somewhere. Right now platform engineers fill that gap, because the underlying tech doesn’t.

IMO you are thinking too much like an engineer if you are saying you “just have to understand networking”. Why? It’s always better when the problem gets solved in a way that allows you to not think of it too much. Right now SREs and the platform team do that for application developers because Kubernetes only does it halfway.

Infrastructure/devops/SRE is a pure means to an end of getting actual applications (the ultimate source of all the value in software) to run. It’s an obstacle. Right now the obstacle is bigger than it needs to be

Is it fair to say that you are in favor of Heroku, fly.io, ECS, etc?

TIL of Spartan Protocol. I love Dillon, how is it handling modern security features like new versions of TLS or SSL?

It's in the changelog summary:

> Add support for OpenSSL, LibreSSL and mbed TLS for HTTPS, which is now enabled by default.

People write large Biographies & memoirs about their life.

What should it be hubris to talk about your life for 4 hours?

Whitespace · 2 years ago
But people don't often turn every opportunity they have into an a large autobiography and memoir of their life.

He's arrogant, he doesn't give credits to others. So what? Silly Ad hominem attack.

Not listening to him because of this is a mistake, Wolfram is a true genius and, even if "his" ideas aren't fully his, you will probably not hear them with such clarity anywhere else. He is, at a minimum, an amazing explainer like few people I've ever seen.

It's not a mistake to value your time to be worth more than "listening to Stephen Wolfram"

I think all the ad hominem you see in here are from people who waste too many precious hours of their life listening to him. I know I am: I spent weeks as a young teen over NKS when it came out. Wasn't as revelatory as he kept insisting it was. Turned me off of cellular automata.

I respect the work that he's done and the contributions he's given to humanity but for once I would like to see something by Stephen Wolfram that didn't involve at least 50% of the content being a form of self-aggrandizement.

I find that everything I try to consume from him contains his autobiography interspersed in the giant wall of text. This video is exquisitely cringeworthy.
