Swenrekcah commented on Without America to rely on, EU gearing up to be a global power in its own right   theatlantic.com/internati... · Posted by u/saubeidl

The time when Europe had the capability to go off on adventures of its own or be a threat to the US is past. European economies are no longer big enough proportionately. Compare a lit of the world's largest economies from 40 years ago to now.
Swenrekcah · 23 days ago
It seemed like it was the past, but it might become so again. Europe will never trust the US for defence again, which means it has to build up all defence capabilities internally. This will take many many years, but it seems almost inevitable now that it will happen.

When enough time has passed with Europe self sufficient in defence, there might arise cases where US and Europe has a conflict of interest that results in an armed conflict. Perhaps at first via proxy states depending on the type of conflict.

If anyone believes that USAID was primarily foreign aid, then they have fallen for the lie.

If they believe that foreign countries should have the ability to control their own destinies without interference from the US and being manipulated into doing what is best for the US and not for that country, you would be 100% against USAID.

This much is true, like most things coming from Trump this move mainly benefited Russia and China while actively harming US interests.

This is also a good argument why "opinionated" designs like from Apple are a bad idea. The average user does not exist. Stop trying to turn us into one!

I have used an iPhone for 8 years and a macbook for 2 years. Every year the experience gets worse, like on schedule. This theory might explain what is happening!
Swenrekcah commented on EU bans the destruction of unsold apparel, clothing, accessories and footwear   environment.ec.europa.eu/... · Posted by u/giuliomagnifico

If they knew in advance that the clothing wouldn't sell, they would never have made it!

But companies stockpile goods in anticipation of potential demand. For example, they'll "overproduce" winter coats because some winters are colder than average. This sort of anti-overproduction law means that the next time there's an unexpected need -- for example an unusually cold winter -- there will be a shortage because there won't be any warehouses full of "just in case" inventory.

Swenrekcah · a month ago
It seems to me that is exactly what could be enabled by this law. It is forbidding the destruction of last year’s winter coats.

Countries outside European Union don't care about global warming anyway. It's a futile policy.

Swenrekcah commented on US blocks all offshore wind construction, says reason is classified   arstechnica.com/science/2... · Posted by u/rbanffy
dboreham · 3 months ago
Perhaps worth recapping that he hates them due to a specific personal event (the same is true for everything he does, if you dig deep enough to find the reason). In this case he developed a golf resort on the East Coast of Scotland. Meanwhile wind generators were also being deployed immediately offshore. He became enraged that the view from his new development was blighted by the turbines. So it isn't even due to oil industry bribery. It's personal.
Swenrekcah · 3 months ago
In that case he would just approve wind farms that fuck with people he dislikes.

It seems to me this is very much intentional to keep oil demand up and prices high.

If you don't think a foreign diplomat's comments about a counterparty nation are potentially biased, we don't have enough common ground to warrant further discussion.

Nothing would please our enemies more than people not being able to talk to each other. This decline of trust is not accidental.

Countries shouldn't have outsourced all research and development to the US, hope they all notice this wasn't a good plan and that they all need to get back to it right now.
Swenrekcah · 3 months ago
It wasn’t exactly those countries choice, but since the US seems hell bent on sabotaging itself one can only hope the rest of the western world picks up this slack.

I am, but still it sounds bad to me to expose them to the road elements on the way home.

And food in packaging, it is usually in boxes or other containers most of the time in supply line transit. Individual items only get unpacked in the store, so I would think this practice adds considerably to their “dirtyness”.

Swenrekcah commented on EU household real income per capita up 22% since 2004   ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web... · Posted by u/andrewstetsenko
graemep · 3 months ago
That is pretty disastrous. 22% over 20 years is 1% per year.

A few countries have done spectacularly well, but others have done incredibly badly (two have an actual decline over a 20 year period!).

Swenrekcah · 3 months ago
Keep in mind this is adjusted for inflation. However I agree it should have been more during this period.
