> I wonder why anyone has to fight for an ad free YouTube.

90% of my YouTube use is on my smart TV. There's not really a straightforward way to block ads there. Used to be many years ago that a PiHole or similar would work, but they clued onto that years ago.

I have a Chromecast with Google TV, and it allows sideloading of APKs. I installed SmartTube which is a YouTube client that incorporates Adblocking and also SponsorBlock.

It periodically has issues loading videos when Google change something, but the app gets updated every time within a day.

Give an actual working example on how you would share with a friend access to an arbitrary Passkey-enabled account of yours.

Do all using services allow this? Is it at least ad easy and straightforward as telling your trustworthy auntie your password?

Spare_account · 2 months ago
Does the Passkey-enabled account support multiple passkeys?

I'm pretty sure I have my Android phone setup with a passkey for my Google account and also my Windows laptop.

Presuambly the same logic applies for a service that permits multiple passkeys. Each person would register a passkey on their device using the shared credential.

clicked this link on mobile and every page scroll caused another malicious ad redirect (??) there's also a huge bouncing "remove ads" button with an X that opens an advert in the background. can't tell if the ads are on purpose or if the owners have just ticked every ad network box

Genuine question, if you're willing to indulge me: Why aren't you using ad-blocking of one type or another?

(Assumption: You're tech literate, given the audience of this website. So I tend to assume it must be a conscious decision not to use adblocking)

I don't browse without it these days.

I want a Firefox extension that will auto-accept all cookies.

Because I already use Cookie Auto-Delete and I'm just sick of the question popping up. Stop nagging and give me all the cookies so I can delete them 5s after I close your tab.

that is covered off in the article, for what it's worth

(Not the same guy but) I've definitely heard about this bug in the past, but I assume it is fixed now. I can't actually find a reference for it. If I find one within the hackernews comment edit window I'll add it here.

CTA never did that; I don’t think they could if the wanted to.

Metra did it, I’m 99.9% sure they stopped years ago. But yeah, there would be a person at the platform when the train arrived downtown with a piece of paper saying that the train was delayed. A late slip.

Nowadays, you have real-time location tracking of the train. If it’s late, you can tell your employer what train you’re on and they could verify it. At least to a better degree than with the late slips. Still not perfect. But if you’ve got an employer that would want to verify such things, you’ve got worse problems.

Somewhere else in the thread, it was suggested that these 'late slips' might be useful for proving to one's employer why they were late to work.

Is this the only use for them?

I am reminded, once again, how lucky I am to have been employed by people who trust me.

I've been doing this since 02001, except without the week numbers. I switched from CVS to Git around 02009.

Anyone who knows me will tell you I am not very organized. Possibly this is why.

Android support is definitely substandard, even with Termux.

It's not foolproof. On one occasion I typed in the month wrong, though in the right place in the file. When I noticed that the line was out of order, I moved it to where the date said it should be. Arriving a month late, I discovered that the studio space I'd paid for no longer existed.

I like your future proof year numbering. Most current date formats are going to have a BIIG problem come the end of 9999 but not you!

@dang Can you add (2023) to the title.

Also, the linked reddit thread contains no concrete evidence of the alleged privacy breach in the title. This may be a candidate for re-titling / removal.
