I did something similar with a receipt printer, an Arduino and a PHP script in 2011. It got replaced by an iPhone very soon after, but I'm thinking of reviving it, because it forces you to filter what's important.

I'd love it if this could be integrated into Paperless. Every now and then one of my scanned documents goes in upside down and I need to rescan. Clicking rotate, maybe reordering and letting it be rescanned would be great.

The latest version of paperless-ngx can rotate documents. Check it out!

A smartphone is not a requirement for life.
Odenwaelder · 4 years ago
Neither is a car or a dishwasher. Yet, they are convenient to have.

Android without google services, using lineageos or calyxos.

How well does this work as a daily driver? I heavily rely on my smartphone.

This is why I just noped the fuck out of the Apple ecosystem. I won’t support anything which relies on opaque blacklisting to ruin lives.

In this example as well on iCloud shared galleries you can upload to other people’s ones you have been invited to. What could possibly go wrong?

What did you switch to? Google? Are they handling this issue any better? Or are you using a dumbphone?

Maybe someone can comment on this: Does Google scan the cloud fotos of its users for CP? Have we seen an uptick of false positives/SWATings since they do that?

Apple is - rightfully and understandably IMO - criticized for their plans, but does anyone know how Google handles this?

How long until they tag these to our ears and assign us a personal number? With Elon's offer of servitude[1] on Mars and these, we may encounter George Oswells 1984 pretty soon.

Airtags, just another piece of e-waste to poison the planet.

How long until Apple decides to discontinue the tags on their current generation of devices forcing you to upgrade?

Odenwaelder · 4 years ago
I, for one, don't like losing my keys or umbrella and really like AirTags.

Never really understood this argument, as aging is a risk factor for practically every form of malignancy. Less aging = less malignancy.
Odenwaelder · 5 years ago
You age inevitably, because your genetic code will degrade over time, increasing the chances for malignacy. If you can reverse that in each of the 10^16 cells in your body, you will stop ageing.
