It could also mean there is a lower-level, more fundamental reality, in which the building blocks of our reality emerge.

It could even be a very simple system, as long as it produces complex behavior.

That's cool, thanks for sharing! In my perfect finding I would see some primitives for infographic/charts/etc. This library is great for pendulums :) (currently watching your video on non-chaotic double pendulums and it's awesome!)

Thanks, but it's not my channel! I just stumbled upon it and made a mental note to remember the repo.

Holy shit, going to the official page[1], there's something that is somehow even worse than the loss of freedom:

"You'll need to prove you own your apps by providing your app package name and app signing keys."

That is capital-I Insane.

So that's it then.

If this actually goes through, there will be no option in the mobile OS market for an OS that both:

a) allows the installation of apps without any contractual relationship with any party, and

b) allows the use of mainstream and secure apps like banking

You've missed our consciousness of our inner experiences. They are more varied than just perception at the footlights of our consciousness (cf Hurlburt):

Imagination, inner voice, emotion, unsymbolized conceptual thinking as well as (our reconstructed view of our) perception.

EMIRELADERO · 5 days ago
True! Thanks for pointing that out.

I think Metzinger nailed it, we aren't conscious at all. We confuse the map for the territory in thinking the model we build to predict our other models is us. We are a collection of models a few of which create the illusion of consciousness. Someone is going to connect a handful of already existing models in a way that gives an AI the same illusion sooner rather than later. That will be an interesting day.
EMIRELADERO · 5 days ago
I don't see how your explanation leads to consciousness not being a thing. Consciousness is whatever process/mechanisms there are that as a whole produce our subjective experience and all its sensations, including but not limited to touch, vision, smell, taste, pain, etc.

I'm searching badly for a similar tool (code-based animation renderer) but not focused on math, but rather on general-purpose infographic/charts/motion graphics. The traditional approach for that, of course, is to use After Effects/Davinci Fusion/Blender/Cavalry/etc., but since I've first tried PovRay back in the early 2000s and then tools like Manim, I can't stop thinking about a code/text-based motion graphics tool. It would shine in use with LLMs, of course, and while I see some new "ChatGPT-wrappers for Motion Graphics" pop up now and then, I don't need yet another chat to send me cloud-rendered videos in the Electron app. I want a templated code/language for the graphics and style I'll settle on to use with different data and be able to render it locally (or event automate) as much as I want.

It's so crazy and dangerous I still have trouble believing it's true. Looks like we absolutely need laws regarding when and where a car company can remotely disable a vehicle.
EMIRELADERO · 18 days ago
You shouldn't need any laws, because it can be argued that by paying for the vehicle the owner purchased actual functionality, not just bare parts and chips. Any post-sale agreement is therefore inherently suspect from the beginning. If this is actually real I can't wait to see how it develops legally.

  >But Alsup split a very fine hair. In the same ruling, he found that Anthropic’s wholesale downloading and storage of millions of pirated books — via infamous “pirate libraries” like LibGen and PiLiMi — was not covered by fair use at all. In other words: training on lawfully acquired books is one thing, but stockpiling a central library of stolen copies is classic copyright infringement.

I am not actively following this trend but didn't Meta do the exact same and successfully argued that it was fair use because.. they didn't seed or upload any data?

What am I missing here?

EMIRELADERO · a month ago
You're not missing anything. The Anthropic and Meta judges simply disagreed with each other and issued two opposite holdings.
