Any consolidation like this seems like a negative for consumers. But at least it wasn’t bought by Larry Ellison, as was considered very likely (assuming this merger gets approved, in the current administration you never know).

From a Hacker News perspective, I wonder what this means for engineers working on HBO Max. Netflix says they’re keeping the company separate but surely you’d be looking to move them to Netflix backend infrastructure at the very least.

I am paying for both the services right now. I dont mind consolidating that payment and hopefully pay a slightly lower price.

> This is only the beginning.

And perhaps the end. If its as serious as you claim it is nothing will come out of it.

Does it matter? Who is listening? Who is reading? Definitely not the Trump administration and the GoP. They simply don't care about these appeals and truths.

I used to be very into photography before Instagram and smartphones inundated the world with easy acceptably good photos.

I was into DJing when that meant buying vinyl and mastering the difficult art of beatmatching by ear before CDJs made acquiring music trivial and automated beatmatching made mixing easy.

I was a game developer during the time when casual smartphone games came and ate so much time and attention that players had less time available for other games.

I got into making music when that meant fighting with big, slow, complex hardware synthesizers, then watched anyone with a laptop (including me) be able to do all of that a hundred times more easily, and now I watch AI auto-generate passable background music.

Time and time again, I've seen this same process play out.

Many of the deepest joys in my life involved putting deep time and care into making something to share with others. That feels increasingly out of step with the culture at large.

Even if they were full professors, 25 seems like a literal drop in the bucket. There are 187 R1 universities in the US. Competition for professorships is so intense that a lot of people look at grad school as a sucker's bet. I'm happy for these people and for Austria, but I don't see a real news story here.

Agreed. I think they leave too much money on the table. Use of window shades and lavatories could be behind a subscription service as well, with Sky Comfort+ affording you the privilege of multiple lavatory visits for those who have chosen the luxury IBS lifestyle. I'll let you know if I think of anything else those pesky airline passengers take for granted.

Agreed. There should be a fee for speaking too. Some passengers are really chatty. In today's world where free speech is already being curbed, Airlines should charge a free-speech fee for passengers who plan to converse.

Separately there should be a fee for opening/closing the AC vent and using the overhead lights.

He stated that we should not disarm ourselves because evil exists.

I’m not completely sure I agree with that answer, but it suddenly doesn’t excuse evil.

Also as immigrant I assure you that most of us are legal - please stop using us for your arguments in favour of illegal immigration - and would be unlikely to be arrested for a crime and would not try and flee if arrested, so there’s very little chance I will be eaten be alligators.

OT: May be vice also needs to suspend a few folks as their website is egregious to use with full page intrusive ads. FFS please. I don't mind the ads but this is just too much. I am pretty sure I am not going to be clicking on vice links again.

Almost the whole repo is LLM generated. Look at the commits, code, structure and wording of the docs.
