Growing up watching American TV, I assumed "food poisoning" was an overused trope in US media. It wasn't until recently I realised that it's so common in the US, up to 10 times more common than the UK for example, although methodologies tracking the figures differ. I really hope the US does not get its way in gutting the "unfair" trade "barriers" in the EU & UK that are our high food standards.
This a natural consequence of allowing those with profit motives to commit regulatory capture, regulate themselves, or deregulate via corrupting government over decades. If America cared about safety in goods and services, the precautionary principle would be the standard and campaign finance corruption would be forbidden.
Cook your food. I realize some people prefer it raw but from what I understand, cooking food kills ecoli. My family has eaten lettuce that has had ecoli reports but we usually thoroughly cook or vegetables.
1. Tear the lettuce into large pieces, boil it for half a minute, and wipe off the water.
2. Mix 1 tablespoon each of oyster sauce and water, 1 teaspoon each of soy sauce and sesame oil, put it in the microwave for 20 seconds, and pour it over the lettuce.
