Do I have this right:

Trudeau: Do as we say or you can't operate here

Meta: Ok we won't operate there

T: but you're providing an important service our citizens depend on. Do as we say and operate here

M: ?

T: Hey Yukoners, it's Meta's fault your not getting wildfire information

Why should Meta do anything for these clowns?

When did they stop operating there? I thought they just stopped showing news.

You don't have it right.

Could you provide some details on which part is wrong?
Sunspark · 2 years ago
Just ban Meta from Canada entirely.

This. I hope Canada sets the precedence. Once Facebook chances their business model, Canada can then reconsider letting back in. Set the example. Show other countries it's possible and hopefully they follow suit as well. That is, quite literally, how mass societal change works. Good luck!

Just wow. Using the government as a cudgel is how mass societal change works in authoritarian regimes with little regard for rights and liberties.

I for one don't want to live anywhere the state can dictate arbitrary terms to businesses, even the businesses I don't like.

It's bad enough that our democracy has so much centralized power that this legislation could get rammed through in the first place.

Ah The China model. Thought Canada was a free society?
yesco · 2 years ago
It stopped being a proper liberal democracy when they froze the bank accounts of protesters without trial.

The radio seems to be working just fine. I'm between three fires and they've been covering them all day.

They should ask news agencies to sell the rights to share articles for 0$. Why are they only after one party in the transaction.
sp332 · 2 years ago
Why is Canada still charging money for this news then?
undersuit · 2 years ago
Because the statement was made by Transport Minister Pablo Rodriguez, not Canada.

It really begs the question: “who is Canada?” If a govt minister makes a comment, did “Canada say it?” If the prime minister? The Canadian people? A lot of lazy headlines about this just use the “Canada” personified because of one minister’s comments.

So Canada does not have radio, does not have Cell broadcast but boy, it has Facebook.

Trudeau really is a fine human being. /s
