Ask HN: Who is hiring? (May 2023)
Please state the location and include REMOTE, INTERNS and/or VISA when that sort of candidate is welcome. When remote work is not an option, include ONSITE.

Please only post if you personally are part of the hiring company—no recruiting firms or job boards. One post per company. If it isn't a household name, explain what your company does.

Commenters: please don't reply to job posts to complain about something. It's off topic here.

Readers: please only email if you are personally interested in the job.

Shortwave | Sr. Software Engineer | Onsite in San Francisco | $150k-$225k base + generous equity

I previously cofounded Firebase (YC S11) and sold it to Google, and most of our team is ex-Google / ex-Firebase.

Shortwave (https://www.shortwave.com/) is building an AI-powered email client. We're bringing the power of LLMs & a modern messaging UX to 4.5 billion email users.

Imagine an AI virtual assistant with perfect knowledge of every message, attachment, receipt, newsletter, etc you've ever sent or received. Your AI assistant can answer questions about your email ("which candidates in my inbox have experience with Kotlin?") and act on your behalf ("Draft responses asking them to schedule a time with me").

We want the best and are willing to pay for it. We like generalists with strong CS fundamentals, app development experience, and grit. We're well-funded and backed by Union Square Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners.

Come help us build the future. Email if interested: joinourteam@shortwave.com

Unrelated to the job, but I've missed Inbox ever since it got axed. As such, your product looks really interesting.

However, given that there's no mention of it on the Security page[1], I'll assume you'll be selling my data to third parties. One thing is accepting Google looking at my mail for Google's sake, but there's a limit to who I want to share my mail with.

Your post says

> Onsite in San Francisco

but your website states

> We're a distributed team

Are you distributed within San Francisco? :)

TestFit | C Software Developer - Procedural Generation | Full-time | Remote (CST +/- 2)

We design buildings in milliseconds. It can be hard to describe in words - I'd encourage you to get a quick glimpse of our neighborhood layout tool at https://testfit.io/release/testfit-3-07-subdivision-configur.... Our real-time automation allows real estate developers and architects to design projects in a fraction of the time required with traditional CAD software packages.

We are hiring a software engineer to join our small team and add more functionality to our procedural generation systems written in C99. If you like solving tough spatial problems using 2D vectors and geometry, managing your own memory, and optimizing algorithms to run in under a millisecond, then we might be the company for you (being prone to ranting about how much RAM Slack uses is also a good sign). At TestFit were are seeking to create a company of people who are capable, humble, and hard-working.

You can apply at https://jobs.lever.co/testfit/62bb6dfe-fd34-41c3-8cf3-5318a0....

I interviewed with TestFit last year and my opinion of this company is extremely high. The team seems great, and the strong focus on realtime performance in an industry that would certainly tolerate less almost brings a tear to my eye.

Highly recommend.

FYI for others -- from https://www.usds.gov/apply I understand that only US citizens (not even permanent residents) are considered.

I might point out that today is labour day in most of the world, so that might lead to fewer posts.
bfung · 3 years ago
From having scraped HN job posts before, I’ve observed that it does take the full 2 weeks for these job postings to come in. I’d wait awhile before drawing any conclusions from today’s post.

Interesting that 2017-2019 had the most comments. I would have thought the market peaked in 2021.
franciscop · 3 years ago
Market might've peaked in 2021 salary-wise BECAUSE people were not willing to move so much? Not because of demand (more job openings), but because of restricted supply (devs were prob unwilling to move in uncertain times). Just a thought though.
Racing0461 · 3 years ago
Is that just top level comments (aka actual job openings) or total comments (where discussions biasing the data)

its also only the first of the month, and a holiday in many areas.

Not affiliated, just wanted to pop in and say this team seems to really have caught lightning in a bottle. Their userbase is growing rapidly, they've onboarded notable public figures and Twitter power users, and it seems poised to really take over the mantle from Twitter. And the underlying protocol is really fascinating.

The team is active on the app and they are all good people who work hard and think deeply about this stuff, I'd highly recommend applying! (I'd apply myself but I'm a Python/data guy, which doesn't line up w/ advertised roles right now)
